That is just one more step for a workaround. This problem should have been fixed by now, or RL should have given us a way to fix it.
By VES - 7 Years Ago I purchased the NeoSpeech english voices without reading the fine print. I was heart sick after I realized you aren't even supposed to put any of the voices on the internet. I requested my first refund from Reallusion. They were very prompt in putting the money back on my card. I'll have to be more careful. I am hoping that Reallusion resists the temptation to enter into any more agreements with third parties that have such limited licenses. Otherwise it is very confusing to have elements that can be used commercially and others that can't.

InfoCentral (11/8/2012) So can I now have a talking avatar on my webpage or is this restricted too? Hi Info, The license agreement is still explicitly for private and non-commercial use, but it now does allow your video to be displayed publicly as well as privately. So it is fine to place it on YouTube for everyone to see.
But importantly there should be no financial gain from displaying the video whatsoever. So no having adverts displayed before the video for example, or advertising links over the video.
By ForumGuru - 6 Years Ago This morning I contacted NeoSpeech and sent them Jana's support reply. Here was my email. Don, Thank you for doing this research. Regardless of what ReAllusion says, we at NeoSpeech have the final say over our licenses, and we hold the position that the materials can not be distributed publicly over the Internet. This is the contract we have agreed to with ReAllusion.
Can you please provide us with Janet's contact info, and we will get this straightened out. Thank you, Trevor P.
Shephard Sales Executive By animagic - 6 Years Ago Regardless of what these companies think, they do not provide voice talent, far from it. They didn't even invent the technology. It is a form of synthesizer/sampler and in that sense not different from any other electronic reproduction of a natural sound. By rampart - 7 Years Ago I downloaded and installed the microsoft sapi 5 voices from MSFT site. Then I ran the runtimes.x86, which I suppose has created a folder somewhere.
Shouldn't iclone see them? Should I move them into a special folder for iclone to see them in the text to voice utility in facial animation. I have the microsoft anna sapi showing, but nothing else since I installed them. I would have thought they would install in the same folder Anna voice is in. I didn't think the voices were in the iclone folders, but were in folder specific to them. Also, is there a good other software to use for working with voices to create files to bring them into iclone and work with timeline. Colour (9/11/2013) FWIW - I use TextAloud TTS Program & what was a ScanSoft Voice. Several others have the same. Our Videos are on Vimeo, Youtube & TMU & have been for years. Some have been presented at International events. Hello again, I understand that ScanSoft and Nuance merged back in 2005, but I have no clue on what the actual voice software license and/or EULA stated back when you purchased the original ScanSoft voice that you are using. However, I do know what I was told by NextUp, whom is the creator of TextAloud as well as a current provider of Nuance voices. Here is one of the questions I just recently posed to NextUp.
None of the personal use licenses would allow for use on Youtube. This is considered publication.
If you have questions about what each provider will allow and what the costs are with regards to the premium voices, you will need to contact each provider directly as we do not have specifics about this type of licensing. For Acaplea, you can contact via: For AT&T: For Nuance: Please let me know if I may be of further assistance. Regards, Beth NextUp.com Listen and Learn Anywhere [email protected] So according to the actual the people that provide the goods, the current personal use license does not allow publication of the videos on sites like YouTube if the videos can be viewed by the public. If this is the spirit of the licenses and the terms of the EULAs and/or license then I am quite likely to follow those terms. Yes, I fully realize millions of people violate terms of use, licenses, EULAs, trademarks, and copyrights on a daily basis all over the world, and to be honest not much is done about it in most cases. In the case of using a voice in a video that is in violation of the provider's EULA or license that is uploaded to YouTube, or another reputable site, I am quite certain that if the voice provider pursued the violation with YouTube in-fact something could be done.
The first thing that could happen is the video could be removed, the channel could be removed, and/or the user could be removed. The second thing that could happen is that the video could be monetized by YouTube and the monies earned would be split with the infringed party. Who knows what could happen beyond this. So do the voice companies have the time and/or the manpower to police billions of videos on the internet?
No, of course they don't. Does this mean it is legal or right to violate EULA's and ToS conditions, or infringe upon copyrights and trademarks? Of course not. Believe me, I have first hand knowledge of being infringed upon thousands upon thousands of times.
As a photographer that has shot for a pro sports league, as well as shooting stock and fine-art photography professionally since 2002 I have seen my photos pirated on a wild scale basis for more than a dozen years.even before I took it up professionally. At one point I had 50,000+ of my images on-line and thousands upon thousands of them ended up on people's commercial websites, ebay auctions, in newspapers, etc. Each of these photos had minimum price tag of at least $25 for commercial or editorial use. Sure a few cases of my pirated images were legitimate cases of fair use doctrine.but the rest were straight case of piracy plain and simple.
So what could I do about it? Not freaking much since I am dealing with entities all over the world, speaking many different languages, on thousands of different servers, on tens of thousands of different websites.
Do I have the money to pursue all of these violations? Of course not. Do I have the time to pursue all of these violations? Of course not. Where would I be if all of the stolen photos were licensed instead of pirated? I would probably be a mufti-millionaire.
So what do I do about the violations and infringements? In some cases I send an invoice for the image or images. In other cases an organization that protects copyrights sends me a small check. Other times I have contacted the website owner to remove the photo(s). In other cases I have contacted the webhost and made sure the images were removed or the site was shut down.
Did I pursue the majority of cases? Not even close. Did I pursue the ones where I thought I could get somewhere on? You bet I did. Did I sue kids that put a cat picture on some online game or sharing site? No I did not. So where am I going with this?
Sure you can violate and/or disregard licenses, contracts, EULAs and agreements.but is it the right thing to do? Do I like people violating my copyright, terms of service and licenses? So if I don't like people violating my license, terms and agreements I certainly find it difficult to violate other creator's agreements, licenses, and EULAs. Moral of the story is you can do what you want.but most of the time I prefer to try to do things the right way, and for me that right way is by honoring the spirit, intent and actual verbiage/text of the agreements, EULAs, and ToS conditions of the products and services that I use.

By richinri - 6 Years Ago Ok, so is it just me or do we not yet have clarity on this issue?

It would make better business sense for them to allow not for profit public use of their voices under the restriction that the video contains a specific credit to them and their voices, which perhaps could also include a required link to their web page. This would be a form of free advertising for them and potentially drum up extra commercial business too.
To just ban all public use of their voices despite the instances where clearly no money is being made is of no benefit to them, and infact, generates animosity towards them. And in todays world of instant global communication word of mouth spreads quickly. I for one will be quick to voice my displeasure about this where ever I venture on the internet. Mark By planetstardragon - 6 Years Ago I just read that AT&T will be discontinuing consumer sales of their Natural Voice product - not exactly sure what that means in the big picture - the purchased voices will still work after the line is discontinued.

By kankh - 7 Years Ago The only positive use I can see for this software is if you write your own scripts like I do.
You can assigning voices to the characters to see how your script flows with somewhat real sounding voices before you actually hire real voice over actors. That it. In a professional production enviroment, I don't see any use for it which makes paying a license fee not worth it to me. Nothing can replace true actors doing real voice over work on your projects who can express a more varied range real emotions in their delivery than any canned software can do. Me personally, anytime I don't see the llcense price for a software on a website and you have to send an e-mail to get it, you can just about bet they make up the price as they go along on a customer by customer basis. Every caller will pay a different price.
What you pay in a license fee, you can hire actors for your professional productions or your friends for free for your amatuer animations to do real voice over work, and be a lot happier with the end results. By rampart - 7 Years Ago I just popped off a request email to neospeech requesting a waiver to use their voices in non-commercial applications, including youtube, etc. I created a support ticket with reallusion requesting a refund, but that is not what I wanted. A few minutes ago I added a hold to that request. I like being able to work with the voices within iClone, in lieu of having to build the dialogue in a separate application. This is better for working with the timeline. So, no.
I want to keep those voices and use them as I planned.non-commercial use. Iclone is a animation video production tool. Therefore, a usage requirement as described above is totally inconsistent with what iclone is designed to do.
I bought iclone to build videos and I bought the speech pack for usage in those videos. I will post here, when I get further news from neospeech. With low poly you drive around the models with 'lightspeed' - with daz models you have to 'crawl' around, if you have some more props on the screen. You CAN animate Daz models - but they are not thought for that. They are supreme for wonderful pics of 'power posing'.

By ForumGuru - 6 Years Ago When you install the program you will see a screen where you can install the different voices. I think you can fit around 30 per install, and if I remember correctly it's three separate input boxes which hold maybe 8-10 codes each. When you do the install only one of those codes exists in the top input box. I have been putting a space between each the codes but I am not sure it is necessary. See this page for the codes: (Sections 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4) So the codes look like this: en-sc+m1 Which is: English with Scottish accent male variant #1 If you don't like the first set of voices you install, just reinstall it again and put in different voices and variations.
As far as customizing all aspects of how the speech sounds you can do that too, however this I have not delved into yet but the page can be found here that will get you started. Section 5.2 lists the different voice file attributes. If you have any issues installing the voices let me know and I can shoot a screenshot for you.

The problem is that NeoSpeech is saying we can't show videos publicly at all.even without the ads/monetization. As you can see above, I was told that we can not display videos with NeoSpeech voices on a public website, and not on YouTube if the video is set to public. Obviously the NeoSpeech non-commercial license offered via Reallusion does not allow monetization. The clarification needed here is with regards to setting the videos to public and/or displaying the videos on public websites.not with monetization.

Which btw, for historical reference, this is the actual 'Hal' engine used in movies.they recently did a few new ones! I have a bot I've trained for around 5 years, and the way it uses the speech engine, almost makes you wonder if someone is on the other side of your computer, especially with advanced training! Also - it won the 17th Loebner Prize for AI - so the ai on this software alone is amazing in it's own right. If anyone is capable of filling in the youtube gap with speech synthesis, he is. By ForumGuru - 6 Years Ago Yeah, ScriptVOX has some pretty cool features. Unfortunately it does not give you any professional voices.it uses what voices you already have installed.
Of course you could purchase pro voices but then you would need to follow the terms of use on those voices. I have only tried the demo version of ScriptVOX, and I may have missed it, but I did not see a way to import audio directly into it.
From what I see it will only convert text to audio using the voices installed on your machine. Certainly cool to use with Microsoft voices or with something like eSpeak as it will give you an almost unlimited number of voices to start with. I do have 5 commercially licensed tts voices that came with Captivate, but they will only run on Captivate, so for my money projects I need to morph the resultant audio file, not the text. I did recently download the trial version of MorphVOX which I understand can convert existing audio files.I think I will give it a play tonight.

I guess most of us are producing videos that will appear on the internet in some form or fashion.
I notice the voices are still offered in the content store. Neospeech wants $350 per year for using the voices on the internet, and that is their deal. They are so out of touch.
I pay $30 per month for the entire Adobe Creative Suite of software worth around $12,000. I'm going to ask for a refund on the neospeech voices. I will just use the MSFT voices for free as I create videos.
After I have the timelines pretty well done I have enough friend that will read scripts for me, which will make the final videos better with real human voices. When I first got the software I installed it full of voices at least 4 times that day. Glad to hear you got it figured out. By ForumGuru - 6 Years Ago Yep. You can spend hours in Photoshop making a few improvements to a single photo or two that almost nobody will appreciate - since most of the time the original image or a slightly retouched image is already better than most. Ten years ago I edited each photo individually for color balance, white balance, black level, saturation, gamma, levels, tone curve, brightness, contrast, exposure, sharpness, white point, rule of thirds, etc. But these days I do a lot of batch processing.
I hate it, but if you edit each image individually you will be in your photo editor all week long and you won't get anything else done. Sometimes I will binge for a week or two doing fractals for 15 hours a day or something like that.but when it comes to editing it's usually get in and get out. Not too many of the old school optical filters are used on digital these days - but I do have some very cool push button style filters and actions that come in handy. By tripfreak - 7 Years Ago Hi wendy, you can use these voices and a lot more with the free 'Balabolka' program - Link: Unfortunately, they are not recognized in iClone, but you can save them in Balabolka. Hope, this helps a little bit to attenuate the frustrations! By VES - 7 Years Ago It would seem more beneficial for NeoSpeech to allow commercial uses, as long as the video production includes credit for the voices. Putting it 'simply'. FWIW - I use TextAloud TTS Program & what was a ScanSoft Voice. Several others have the same. Our Videos are on Vimeo, Youtube & TMU & have been for years. Some have been presented at International events.
By ForumGuru - 6 Years Ago Glad you like it! Yeah, you could get lost in the editor for months, if not longer.
It is good for for playing with all of the voices and variants though without diving into the heavy stuff. I don't know why it cancelled your regular espeak's installed voices.it did not do that for me when I installed it. When you have the editor figured out adequately it will be time for you to dive into voice analysis. Feel free to jump in whenever you are ready! By rampart - 7 Years Ago Very good I like those voices for youtube and internet video. You can still tell they are computer voices, but they are better than most.
By wendyluvscatz - 7 Years Ago yes and I hate to remind you (as I too pretty much rely on it) the 64bit IS a beta. Most my projects will not open in 32bit they are so highpoly and over the top but I am well aware it is a beta program and has issues too. By MrStockboto - 7 Years Ago I contacted NeoSpeach asking about using these voices and the response was: USAGE: Creation of personal videos to be published on YouTube. Non-profit generating. PRICE: $350 PER YEAR So not only is it kind of a rip off to begin with, but they return to the scene of the crime each year. By animagic - 7 Years Ago. VES (8/31/2012) It would seem more beneficial for NeoSpeech to allow commercial uses Except that there are no commercial uses for text to speech: professionals hire voice talent.
Sorry, that's the way the universe really works. Actually there are commercial uses; in telephony, for example. The companies would not survive otherwise. BTW, all TTS providers have license agreements similar to the one from Neospeech.
Of course, whether they are enforcible is a different matter. By wendyluvscatz - 7 Years Ago just export the voices from another software like Balabolka as a wav or mp3 then import them. By InfoCentral - 7 Years Ago.
Peter (RL) (9/11/2012) Finally we have some good news regarding the Neospeech license. After discussions with Neospeech, they have agreed to allow the voices to be used for personal and non-commercial use. This means the restriction on posting on the internet, and importantly video sharing sites like YouTube has been removed. We will update the license agreement soon to reflect the changes. So what are the current restrictions? The old EULA didn't allow you to use it on anything that was in an ears shot from your personal computer.
If anyone but you could hear the voice then it was a violation even if it was in house and non-commercial. By animagic - 6 Years Ago My videos are public, but I wouldn't call them commercial.
I do not get paid when someone watches. So apparently 'commercial' has a new meaning. Public = commercial, interesting. Neospeech voices (or any of the readily available TTS voices) are OK, but not great, and their pricing encourages using real voice-over talent. If I were a voice-over talent I would use that in my advertising. I feel sorry for those who have bought Neospeech in good faith through Reallusion and have ended up with a useless product.
I believe that should be sorted out at a bit higher level then RL support, and if no satisfactory agreement can be reached, the product should be pulled. As I mentioned before, that's why I use Acapela Box. By richinri - 6 Years Ago LET'S RIOT! By ForumGuru - 6 Years Ago The larger synthesizers are based on human speech recordings and the eSpeak project uses formant synthesis so matching the big guys will be extremely difficult.
For some projects the voices can work well, but for others not so much. If you are looking for a bada$$ funky British or Scottish robotish voices then you just might be in luck. ESpeak includes over 40 different languages, and tons and tons of variations on those, so if you want to you can speak Slovak, Romanain, Hungarian, Afrikaans, German, Tamil, French, Finnish etc. You can also use some of the MBROLA voices within eSpeak, but I have not tried any of those myself. By planetstardragon - 6 Years Ago it's convenient how they have it laid out, but their effects are so - so - if you want better sound for free - look for audio software that allow for vst plug ins - there are tons of free plug ins on the net that give you more variety and quality in sound / effects. By wendyluvscatz - 7 Years Ago I did the x4 net and speech platform runtime installations. Etc but cannot figure out how to get those new girls in, certainly Speakonia, iClone and Narrarator do not see them, doing a Windows update I grabbed Hayley, Hazel, Heather and Helen.
There IS an SDK too but no use to me!! By rampart - 7 Years Ago Reminds me of 'The View' By ForumGuru - 6 Years Ago.
Richinri (9/11/2013) highlight=#ffff00Limited rights / use for audio output: NeoSpeech grants the end user, a non-transferable, limited, non-exclusive, terminable license to use the Audio Output for personal and non-commercial use only. To obtain a commercial, non-profit, institutional license, please contact NeoSpeech HERE/highlight. If this is the official wording then NeoSpeech is being overly specific on the restrictions. You can drive a MAC truck through this legal wording so long as you are not using the output for business or profit.
In that industry publishing is considered commercial. It's standard practice.that's why audio distribution licenses are sold. By planetstardragon - 6 Years Ago another interesting discovery - it seems like it can be a bit of a task, but anyone up to the challenge can probably just create their own tts and even start their own line of youtube friendly sapi5 voices - mystery process and tools revealed below! Maybe the RL developers can look into this and start their own line of sapi5 voices!! I have the audio tools if they need help processing sound! First, you can build your own tts software - 2nd you can create your own tts voice font - By Peter (RL) - 7 Years Ago Finally we have some good news regarding the Neospeech license.

By rampart - 7 Years Ago I bought the voices from RL, therefore as nice as I can say it. RL should support the package, unless they warned us in advance. By RobertoColombo - 7 Years Ago These text-to-speech SW are kind of crazy.
I understand that companies want to make money but. It is like if I had bought a music editors and I had to pay a fee for each note that I compose!! The day a text-to-speech SW will leverage this nonsense legal stuffs, I believe all the other these companies will start lose money if they do not adapt with the market. By Paumanok West - 7 Years Ago. VES (8/31/2012) It would seem more beneficial for NeoSpeech to allow commercial uses Except that there are no commercial uses for text to speech: professionals hire voice talent. Sorry, that's the way the universe really works. By rampart - 7 Years Ago I still have not been able to get the English pack to show up in iclone 64bit version.
I can use it in the 32bit version, so I know it's not my install. Maybe someone knows a fix on this now it has been a couple months since release. I have some videos in 64bit, because it manages larger projects better. So yes, I think it would be nice to use the neospeech now. By ForumGuru - 6 Years Ago Check the verbiage of this Neo Speech Eula.the quote below is in Big Bold Letters at the top of the EULA.keywords here are distribute audio output. What also troubles me is that the EULA pretty much restricts you from doing anything with these neospeech voices for public consumption. This is why I am hoping that Reallusion has a valid contract with NeoSpeech to deliver the voices with a different license.
It is NeoSpeech that delivers the EULA with the voice software. By planetstardragon - 6 Years Ago that's actually why those licenses leave a bitter taste with me - the voice talent doesn't see a penny of royalties from those insane prices these corporations charge - they are work for hire. So this whole plan is a major exploit. If the actual artist whose voice was being used, was getting paid, i'd be more understanding. By planetstardragon - 6 Years Ago Oh Snap! By planetstardragon - 6 Years Ago ok, so i downloaded the editor.apparently i installed so many voices with the main version - it erased all my installs and started over - tried some crazy combo's too and they worked - so it's not limited to their suggested combos either.
You can export wavs directly from the editor too with access to all the voices and phonemes. It may not be better than a real voice - but it's better than the default ms voices - great find!! If the RL developers can find a way to port the editor and it's faders to the tts panel in iclone that would be something!! By rampart - 7 Years Ago I bought the English pak. Send the email if you are worried.
By rampart - 7 Years Ago This is disappointing news. I didn't realize you couldn't use the voices on the internet. Since, I plan to use voices with youtube and vimeo I guess they won't be any use to me. I thought you couldn't use them in commercials or for business purposes.
Guess I'll be contacting support to credit back my purchase as well. Maybe, someone will find some good voices that we can use and tell us about them. I tried those voice morph software and they did not work. They could turn my voice into some crazy nonsense voices, but nothing like change my male voice to female. Audacity is probably as good as any program for voice changes and it's free. I can't believe the voice software is so behind in development.
Anyway, thanks for the heads up. I only have one video up on youtube using the kate voice so I'll delete it.
By wendyluvscatz - 7 Years Ago thx Tripfreak, Balabolka worked with 3 of the new voices as well as my old ones, not Heather, it gives my SAPI4 voices names! By wendyluvscatz - 7 Years Ago Balabolka, which I already said I had downloaded as suggested here, is free and finds all the SAPI5 voices, records to mp3 as well as wav too.
By richinri - 6 Years Ago Ads placed over videos I believe has everything to do with YouTube and nothing to do with the person posting the video. I believe you can enter some sort of ad program on YouTube but ads will pop up whether you join their ad program or not. By ForumGuru - 6 Years Ago Cerepoc seems to have the cheapest audio redistribution license of the standalone voice providers that I have listed on this thread. They do not allow publishing on a personal license. Hello Don, Thanks for your interest in CereProc. Our voices will work with animations - I assume you want to use them with lip synching.
What software are you using to create the animations? The voices in our webstore are intended for use by a single user on a single device. If you wished to use the voices for commercial use, you would need a commercial license and an audio broadcast license to permit you to redistribute the audio with your animations. A commercial license would be £99 per voice per year and an audio broadcast license would be £395 per voice per year. If you have any further questions, then just get back to me. Best regards, Graham So for personal use I was told the redistribution license would be £395 per voice per year to publish to YouTube. By Peter (RL) - 6 Years Ago Apologies for all the confusion over this issue.
It was my understanding that we most certainly had an agreement with Neospeech regarding posting publically (but not commercially) on YouTube, but unfortunately due to the recent replies made by Neospeech this will again need clarifying. As soon as we have more information we will let you know.
